Today’s Photo Friday entry is entitled:

26th December: Photo Friday is taking a break ……. BUT as an option … for those full up with turkey … stuffed to the gills with chocolates … all boozed out … needing a break from the relatives … sick of the festive TV programmes … itching for some “me time” on the computer …. you can post: “funny Christmas photos OR video or of my family” – past and present pictures acceptable! The funnier and more festive the better!

Well, here is my funny video. We all got in on the action. Warning, my dear husband utters a bad word so be prepared for it. Here it goes….

And now for a song my children claim they made up. Their version of Deck the Halls:

80’s Monday

One of my favorite Christmas songs today was created in the 80’s. It is fun to see how young these artists look in this video. Copied straight from the video:

The 1984 single, with all the greatest British musicians singing for famine relief.

On November 25th 1984, dozens of British rockers arrived at SARM West studio in London to record a single track. The result? One incredible song and 14 million dollars to help feed the people of Ethiopia.

Released on November 29th 1984, Do They Know It’s Christmas? was the brainchild of Bob Geldof (Boomtown Rats) and Midge Ure (Ultravox).
After seeing a news report on the famine in Ethiopia, Geldof called Ure to help him write a song to help raise awareness and money for the cause. With Geldof writing the lyrics, and Ure doing the tune and arrangement, they quickly came up with Do They Know It’s Christmas?.
After enlisting a group of well known musicians, they set straight to work in order to have the single ready for release.
The single was released to the public on December 3rd 1984. It went straight to number one on the UK charts and stayed there for 5 weeks.

Marc was the first boy that was ever my “boyfriend”. I met him in 6th grade and we were definitely an ‘odd’ couple. I was already about 5’8 in the 6th grade, and Marc was under 4’5. His head came to my chest….eye level in fact. Hrmmmm maybe that is why he liked me so much.

Anyway, while Marc was my boyfriend he announced to me that he was going to join band at school. Of course I wanted to join too so I could be with him. He decided to play trumpet, so I announced to my mother that I would also love to play the trumpet. My dad took me across town and rented a trumpet.

By the time band started, we had broken up. I had this trumpet and I didn’t want to let my parents down so I joined anyway. Marc and I ignored each other the rest of the year.

In 7th grade, I decided to learn piano instead, until I found out the Band teacher was the coolest teacher in the school…. I joined again in 8th grade. I soon discovered I was good enough to move to 2nd chair in the best band in school, the Jazz band. Normally girls don’t play the trumpet, but I did, and the 1st chair trumpet was also a girl. That was the best part. Judges always commented about that aspect of our Jazz Band.

I have been playing trumpet since, much to the annoyance of my family and friends. A few years ago my husband bought me a used trumpet. It is one of the most treasured things I own. I love to play it.

Thanks Marc!

As an added bonus I have included this You tube video because this man has always been an icon for me, and I love to watch his cheeks puff up when he plays his trumpet:

I am actually writing this post early and I will schedule it for Monday. I am doing this because we are in the process of moving. I am not sure that my computer and internet will be up and working in time to write this post. I chose this song because of all the confusion going on in our own lives right now, but also because listening to the lyrics and watching the video I see how much it still applies to our own world today. The characters have changed but it is still the confusing message that is being sent:

“Land of Confusion” by Genesis

1986

An added bonus for those of you who like to sing…. LYRICS

I mustve dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But I can hear the marching feet
Theyre moving into the street.

Now did you read the news today
They say the dangers gone away
But I can see the fires still alight
There burning into the night.

Theres too many men
Too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
Cant you see
This is a land of confusion.

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands were given
Use them and lets start trying
To make it a place worth living in.

Ooh superman where are you now
When everythings gone wrong somehow
The men of steel, the men of power
Are losing control by the hour.

This is the time
This is the place
So we look for the future
But theres not much love to go round
Tell me why, this is a land of confusion.

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands were given
Use them and lets start trying
To make it a place worth living in.

I remember long ago –
Ooh when the sun was shining
Yes and the stars were bright
All through the night
And the sound of your laughter
As I held you tight
So long ago –

I wont be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
Were not just making promises
That we know, well never keep.

Too many men
Theres too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
Cant you see
This is a land of confusion.

Now this is the world we live in
And these are the hands were given
Use them and lets start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for.

This is the world we live in
And these are the names were given
Stand up and lets start showing
Just where our lives are going to.

I chose this song because we are literally tearing this house up. There is no more furniture up. Even the top of my desk is sitting on the ground as I type this. It feels like we are living in the midst of a storage shed. I think we are…

“Burning Down the House” by Talking Heads

1983

An added bonus for those of you who like to sing…. LYRICS

Watch out
You might get what youre after
Cool babies
Strange but not a stranger
Im an ordinary guy
Burning down the house

Hold tight wait till the partys over
Hold tight were in for nasty weather
There has got to be a way
Burning down the house

Heres your ticket pack your bag: time for jumpin overboard
The transportation is here
Close enough but not too far, maybe you know where you are
Fightin fire with fire

All wet
Hey you might need a raincoat
Shakedown
Dreams walking in broad daylight
Three hun-dred six-ty five de-grees
Burning down the house

It was once upon a place sometimes I listen to myself
Gonna come in first place
People on their way to work baby what did you except
Gonna burst into flame

My house
Sout of the ordinary
Thats might
Dont want to hurt nobody
Some things sure can sweep me off my feet
Burning down the house

No visible means of support and you have not seen nuthin yet
Everythings stuck together
I dont know what you expect starring into the tv set
Fighting fire with fire

“I Ran” by Flock of Seagulls

1982

An added bonus for those of you who like to sing…. LYRICS

I walked along the avenue.
I never thought Id meet a girl like you;
Meet a girl like you.
With auburn hair and tawny eyes;
The kind of eyes that hypnotize me through;
Hypnotize me through.

And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day.
I couldnt get away.

A cloud appears above your head;
A beam of light comes shining down on you,
Shining down on you.
The cloud is moving nearer still.
Aurora borealis comes in view;
Aurora comes in view.

And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day.
I couldnt get away.

Reached out a hand to touch your face;
Youre slowly disappearing from my view;
Disappearing from my view.
Reached out a hand to try again;
Im floating in a beam of light with you;
A beam of light with you.

And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day.
I couldnt get away.

The effect of music…

I came across this at one of my favorite daily reads…. and I nearly fell out of my seat. His is animated and I can’t seem to get the animation to work on mine, but….still worth seeing.
